About the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory
The purpose of the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory is to provide information about Alberta’s Health Care Aides (HCAs) and their attainment of core competencies. This information is important for employers, educators, and government for workforce and educational planning and employment research.
The Government of Alberta is committed to having a competent and valued Health Care Aide workforce that provides quality person-centred care to Albertans. This Directory is an important step towards achieving this goal. It will assist Alberta to become informed about its care providers.
The Alberta Health Care Aide Directory is a web-based service that collects information about Health Care Aides in Alberta, including:
- relevant HCA demographics;
- HCA employment status; and
- attainment of the core competencies (knowledge, behavior, attitude and skills) for HCAs as outlined in the Government of Alberta Health Care Aide Competency Profile (2001).
The Directory will recognize that HCAs have met the core competencies and acknowledge them as valued members of the health care team.
The Directory is funded by Alberta Health and will be available when development and testing are complete.
The Directory will be live May 1, 2017.
